Community Involvement
We view employee community involvement as an integral part of our social responsibility. In the spirit of our founder Levi Strauss, our employees have been courageously carrying out the important work of giving back to our communities for more than 150 years.
We encourage employees and executives to support charitable organizations with their time, talent, and money. To that end we offer full-time employees up to five hours per month paid time off to volunteer at a charitable organization of their choice. In the United States, the Levi Strauss Foundation matches employee and retiree contributions to qualifying organizations. The Foundation also provides grants to nonprofit organizations where employees volunteer or serve on boards.
Worldwide, our employees have formed scores of Community Involvement Teams (CITs). These company-sponsored groups partner with local charitable organizations to identify needs, plan activities, and create volunteer and donation opportunities. Today, CITs on six continents implement innovative solutions to a number of pressing causes including HIV/AIDS, environmental sustainability, breast cancer, the elderly, homelessness and many more.
Our global involvement culminates yearly on Community Day, when employees around the world take a day away from work to volunteer with local nonprofit organizations. The company and Levi Strauss Foundation also make grants to the organizations with which employees volunteer.
