Facilities and Retail Stores

We’ve made a commitment to improving energy efficiency in all of our owned and operated facilities, including our owned and operated 271 retail stores. From next-generation lighting systems to maintenance programs that increase the efficiency of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units, we’re pursuing innovative solutions that reduce energy consumption and minimize our contribution to climate change.

  • Asia Pacific offices. From 2007 to 2008, we realized net efficiency gains in our offices in the Asia Pacific region—even though total office space square footage increased.
  • Manufacturing facilities. From 2007 to 2008 energy use at our owned and operated manufacturing facilities decreased by nearly 10 percent.
  • U.S. retail stores. Since 2006, average kWh/ft2 at our U.S. retail stores has declined by nearly seven percent. Besides more energy-efficient store designs, we are employing new, high-efficiency lighting systems that yield aggregate energy savings of anywhere from twenty to forty percent.
  • Retail pilots: Levi’s® retail store in Munster, Germany. Designed to minimize the environmental impact of design and operation, our store in Munster, Germany installed lighting that is 35 percent more energy efficient than the average Levi Strauss & Co. retail store globally. The Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood flooring, denim recycling station, and motion-sensor-activated light dimmers make this store a model for our retail design teams.
