Your blue jeans were born on Monday.
By that I mean the patent for the original blue jean was issued May 20 – back in 1873.
Levi Strauss partnered with tailor Jacob Davis on the patent, which was for riveted pockets on work pants. The rivets made the pants stronger, ready for the hard work of building the American West.
The Levi’s® 501® jean was the original and first-ever blue jean. Born 140 years ago.

This’ll be quick. Just couldn’t help but notice -- and share -- that Prince Harry was wearing Dockers® Alpha Khakis while visiting New Jersey this week. In the picture above, he's seen with the state's governor, Chris Christie.
Not to call too much attention to the Prince's bum, but that’s where you’ll find the brand’s orange wing-and-anchor logo.

I’ve wanted to see India at least since I was a yoga-obsessed college student. And I finally made it.
While my visit was brief, being in this colorful country met all of my expectations, starting with where I stayed.

Now, it’s official.
The new home of the San Francisco 49ers will be Levi’s® Stadium.
The Santa Clara Stadium Authority unanimously approved the proposal last night, and we here at Levi Strauss & Co. and the Levi’s® brand couldn’t be more excited.
When we announced our plans to employees this week, they were thrilled. (See for yourself in the video below.) I think that’s because they understand the natural connection between these two iconic, Bay Area brands,

Today is Bike to Work Day, San Francisco’s biggest bicycle day of the year! It’s a day for bike riders, bike advocates and bike-friendly companies, like Levis Strauss & Co, to celebrate the huge and growing bicycling community in San Francisco.
San Francisco is a great city for biking. With our mild climate, 7x7 square mile geography and huge and growing number of people biking, commuting by bike is one of the best ways to get around. And we hope you join us in pedaling to the office today, and every day.

It was the beginning of a very long tradition of giving back.
In 1854, Levi Strauss, who was a young immigrant just one year into running his own dry goods business, donated $5 to the Orphan Asylum Society of the City of San Francisco. Little did he know then that his generosity would set the tone for generations to come.

From the 1930s to the 1950s, a San Francisco nightclub called The Forbidden City entertained locals and tourists with Chinese-themed music, dancing and costumes. The Forbidden City, of course, is the name of the imperial palace in Beijing, today a popular historic attraction, and another stop on my 501® Road Show.

This was my first trip to China. And given the many historic links between San Francisco, the home of Levi Strauss & Co., and China, it was an opportunity to see things I’d heard about all my life.

Last year, while undergoing routine medical tests prior to breast cancer surgery, Mrs. Zeng found out that she was HIV-positive.
The diagnosis was not only devastating news, but it also meant a disruption to her breast cancer treatment at a public hospital in Taishan, Guangdong.

It’s Earth Day 2013. A good day to think about the planet and our impact on it.
And consumption.
What’s a company like Levi Strauss & Co. – a company that depends upon people buying our products – doing talking about consuming?
Yes, we want you to buy our jeans and khakis and shirts and jackets.
But here’s the thing, we make these products to last. They won’t quickly fall apart or go out of fashion. Ask Maggie Meyers, who finally had to replace her favorite Levi's®…after ten years of wear.
