Inspired

It’s always interesting to me to see what inspires fashion designers. Is it a trip to the desert, a mountain trek, or maybe a walk through a forest? For the Fall 2012 collection, the Levi’s® brand took to the coast. The collection, they say, was built on – and inspired by – the ocean, coastal communities and their associated handcrafted traditions. The collection is available now, online and in stores. For a taste of its inspiration, check out this beautiful video.

Olympic-Sized Memories

Here’s one thing you may not have thought about while watching the 2012 London Olympics: The range of participants’ clothing sizes.I speak from experience when I tell you that it runs from XXXS to XXXXL.Levi Strauss & Co. was the official outfitter of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. And I was lucky enough to get to work there. That’s right – I was paid to work the Olympics! It was an amazing privilege.

This is a Pair of Levi's®.

This is a pair of Levi's®, buttons and rivets and pockets and cuffs, and the thread that holds it together. When the road gets rough and the sky gets jumpy and the stars start falling on top of your head and the waves start breaking against your legs; It's the thread in your seams that's tied to your dreams. It's the sole in your feet that keep the beat; You're gonna be great, you're gonna be great, you're gonna be great; You're gonna find the cure, you're gonna be famous, you're gonna be shameless.

Peddling the Commuter in Japan

If you’re a cyclist in Japan, odds are you know Cherubim, one of the most respected handmade bicycle brands in that country. It makes sense that when the Levi’s® brand brought its Commuter Series performance wear to Japan, it would turn to Cherubim – and its chief builder, Shin-Ichi Konno, whose father started the company in 1965.Shin-Ichi’s charge? OBEY Mr. ANDRE

The new Levi’s® brand Champs-Élysées store is a great place to find not only the brand’s best product, but also a showcase of some pretty fantastic art.In an earlier post, French Ties, we showed you the work of U.S. artist Shepard Fairey – he of Obey fame – and France's Mr. ANDRÉ currently on display at this Paris flagship. Now, we have a behind-the-scenes video of what went into making it.It’s a fun couple of minutes. Have a look…

Fresh Farm Fashion

A farm may not seem the most likely place to schmooze fashion editors. Unless, of course, it’s located in a fashion mecca like New York City. But where? On a high-rise roof, of course. That’s where you’ll find the Brooklyn Grange, a commercial organic farm that’s actually on the top of a Big Apple building.

Coolest Kids Around

Fashion and lifestyle website Refinery 29 threw some compliments our way today. They recently captured some “jeanius street-style snaps" -- their words, not ours -- outside our Levi’s Plaza headquarters in San Francisco. They even said the company “seems to employ the coolest kids around the Bay.”Aw, shucks. And thanks! The pics above are only a fraction of what can be seen in the slideshow on the Refinery 29 site.

French Ties

We’ll let the pictures from Levi’s® new Champs Elysees store do most of the "speaking," but you need the backstory.Last night, the Levi's® brand launched its second “Vive Les Friends” collaboration -- both to mark the opening of this new flagship store, but to also celebrate the long-time cultural connection between the United States and France. The “friends” in this collaboration are artists Shepard Fairey (pictured left, below) and Mr. ANDRE (right, below).
