Levi Strauss Foundation: Four Things You Didn’t Know About Us

Levi Strauss & Co.

At the Levi Strauss Foundation, we like to say: “You know a pioneer when you see one.”

Guided by LS&Co.’s corporate values of courage, empathy, originality and integrity, the Levi Strauss Foundation (LSF) takes courageous risks in our grantmaking work to support pioneering partners around the globe—all in the service of communities where we live and work.

Want to know us a bit better? Here are four facts about how we support positive social change.

  1. LS&Co.’s values guide our impact in communities.
You may know that Levi Strauss’ pioneering spirit extended far beyond the world of business and into his community. Levi himself was a committed philanthropist and political mover and shaker. In all of our community partnerships, LSF is guided by our iconic founder’s enduring values and commitment to taking on the social issues of our time.
  2. We advance the human rights and well-being of underserved people touched by our business.
This may sound like standard philanthropy, but the truth is that the sector doesn’t always prioritize and empower those with the least wealth and opportunity. We are proud to go where others fear to tread. Click here to learn more about our commitments.
  3.  We support LS&Co.’s efforts to improve the lives of apparel workers who make our products.
Through LS&Co.’s Improving Worker Well-being, LSF invests in high-impact programs that improve the lives of apparel workers who make our products. It’s designed to show the value it delivers to workers’ lives and to the business. By carefully measuring these business and social returns, the initiative ensures ownership by suppliers and the communities.
  4. We’ve been at it for more than 60 years.
In 1952—long before the rise of “corporate social responsibility”—LS&Co. business leaders and Haas family members (descendants of Levi Strauss and LS&Co. owners) established the Levi Strauss Foundation to formalize the company’s giving. Since then, we have invested more than $280 million in our communities. We’ve also been consistently recognized as a leader in corporate philanthropy. In 2013, the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy awarded LSF with the inaugural NCRP Impact Award.

Results like these are possible because of our employees’ efforts to drive the success of the business, and your loyalty to our brands. Thank you!
