Actively engaging the communities in which we live and work has been been part of the fabric of Levi Strauss & Co. since the very beginning. One of the ways our employees support this value is by helping their communities through the efforts of Community Involvement Teams (CITs). These employee-led teams partner with local charitable organizations to identify needs, facilitate volunteer activities and generate donations.

We’re proud of the impact these employees create in their communities and were honored to learn a team in Eugene, Oregon was recently recognized by the Arts and Business Alliance of Eugene. The team received the organization’s BRAVA (Business Recognizing Arts Vision & Achievement) Award for its work with Upstart Crow Studios as part of last year’s Community Day.

The BRAVA award celebrates partnerships between businesses and the arts that contribute to the quality of life in Eugene, drive economic development, and stimulate creativity and innovation.

Upstart is a nonprofit that offers programs in performing, visual and applied arts to help youth build self-esteem and self-worth. LS&Co. employees teamed up with Upstart to help repair their stage (it was becoming a hazard) and replace their back door, which was damaged during a break-in. The project was funded by a grant from the Levi Strauss Foundation, as well as funds raised by the team.

“It was amazing to be able to see it all come together in a course of just a few hours,” said LS&Co. employee and CIT member Victor Mejia, “and it was a little overwhelming how grateful they were for our help.”
