Fortune Shares a Lesson in Denim History

Levi Strauss & Co.

Over time, denim has risen from a humble work pant to an iconic fashion statement, and Levi Strauss & Co. has been there from the very start. In fact, it was more than 161 years ago that the first blue jean was born when Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis obtained a U.S. patent on the process of putting rivets in men’s work pants. We’ve been inspiring change in the marketplace, the workplace and apparel ever since.

Recently, Fortune magazine published an in-depth look at our turnaround in the making under Chip Bergh’s leadership. They also spoke with our historian and archivist Tracey Panek to create a timeline of important moments in denim history.  As you’ll see, there’s no denying we’ve changed the way the world dresses.

Check out the Fortune timeline to see for yourself how denim has evolved over the past 161 years: http://fortune.com/2014/09/18/brief-history-of-blue-jeans/
