Partnership supports Music Technology Program at Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, New York
When the Levi’s® brand’s deep connection to music and music fans intersects with LS&Co.’s passion for giving back, good things happen.
Last Friday, in partnership with Alicia Keys, the brand launched a unique Music Technology Program at Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The program will introduce students to courses in sound engineering, recording, producing, music scoring and more in preparation for post-secondary studies and careers in the music industry. It will closely pair students of all levels with highly qualified teachers, professionals, artists and engineers — equally serving both general education students and those with disabilities.
Through the partnership with Alicia and the high school, the Levi’s® brand hopes to create a positive impact on the local community and establish a long-term program that enables creativity, originality, exploration and innovation.
The launch was accompanied by student performances featuring emerging musicians and incoming freshman at Edward R. Murrow. The musicians included Unlocking the Truth, The Murrow Gospel Choir and David Fleuranvil along with Jonathan Jean Baptiste and Jeremiah Akyeampong all playing covers of Alicia Keys hits. Keys made a surprise appearance joining David Fleuranvil on stage to an ecstatic response for an unforgettable performance.
“This new program is an incredible opportunity for our students,” said Principal Allen Barge. “Thanks to Levi’s and Alicia Keys, our students will have access to endless resources to grow as musicians. The Music Technology program will increase engagement for all students – including those with special needs.”
