Climate change is one of the most important issues of our time. As a leading apparel company, we recognize that, if left unchecked, changing climate and extreme weather will have a huge negative impact on our business, the communities where we operate, and the planet as a whole.
That is why, today, we are proud to stand with more than 100 companies in welcoming the Paris Agreement as over 130 world leaders formally sign the accord at the United Nations later this week.
“Levi Strauss & Co. is proud to stand with other companies in welcoming the Paris Agreement and supporting a low-carbon economy here in the United States,” said Anna Walker, Senior Director of Global Policy and Advocacy for Levi Strauss & Co. “We pledge to do our part to address climate change and encourage U.S. lawmakers to do the same.”
Negotiated last December, the Paris Agreement is a monumental step in transitioning our economy to a cleaner, more sustainable future in which people, the planet and businesses can thrive.
Last December, we applauded U.S. leaders in helping to reach this global agreement. We’re also calling on U.S. lawmakers to make good on our country’s promise to address climate change, beginning with swift implementation of the Clean Power Plan, which will decrease emissions from our nation’s power plants by 32 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.
While today we celebrate and welcome the upcoming signing of the Paris Agreement, we know a lot of work needs to be done to reduce emissions and create a sustainable future. At LS&Co., we’ll continue to do our part to address climate change and advocate with lawmakers for meaningful climate and energy policies to build the low carbon economy necessary for our economy to thrive.
