LS&Co. Backs John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act

Democracy only works when everyone can vote. John Lewis knew this intimately. He dedicated his life to expanding voting rights to all eligible Americans. Even after his passing, this work — his work — can never stop.

Founded and headquartered in the United States 168 years ago, Levi Strauss & Co.’s history and values are woven into America’s fabric. We know that businesses have both a role to play and a duty to work until every American can participate in our democracy. And we know that can only happen if every eligible voter in this country has fair, equitable and safe access to voting.

As of June 21, 17 states have enacted 28 new laws that restrict access to the vote.  Make no mistake — these laws, built on lies, are racist and discriminatory, and meant to deny Black, Brown and historically underrepresented citizens their sacred right. This isn’t a partisan issue. These laws threaten our democracy, and tear at the very fabric of our nation.

That’s why today, alongside more than 160 other companies, LS&Co. signed onto a business letter in support of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Modernizing the Voting Rights Act Rep. Lewis was so integral to passing will help us build a stronger union for all Americans by delivering on this country’s promise of self-determination. The only way to preserve and repair our fragile democracy is to collectively fight for our rights, to fight for each other. It’s what John Lewis did, and what we must do too.
