February 8, 2022

In the United States, the month of February is observed as Black History Month, a time for us to honor and celebrate the contributions and achievements of Black and Brown people throughout our nation’s history. Our Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer Elizabeth A. Morrison speaks to the importance of this month and why we celebrate:

Celebrating our employees and our partners
This year, Project Onyx, our Black Employee Resource Group, will take the month to:

  • Celebrate Black fashion and culture.
  • Educate our employees on workplace equity through a conversation with a Workplace Equity Consultant.
  • Recharge by sharing their favorite mantras, affirmations, and wellness tips every week with the organization.
  • Give-back to nonprofits supporting the Black community, for which every dollar will be matched by LS&Co.
  •
Project Onyx is dedicated to cultivating, strengthening, and sustaining positive relationships between LS&Co.’s Black employees and the broader company. They strive to build an engaging and empowering organization with efforts behind recruiting, professional development, networking, cultural events and social gatherings. In all, they are committed to helping LS&Co. be at the center of culture by building a corporate environment that is inclusive and just as inspiring as the fans who wear our products.

To recognize Black History Month this year, the Levi’s® brand will also amplify the work of two community partners: Black Futures Lab and Live Free. A $25k donation will be made to each on behalf of the brand.

    Our commitment to racial equity
As a company, we know that diversity makes us stronger – regardless of race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality or religion. Diverse perspectives are a must. Looking toward the future, we’ll continuously strive to make LS&Co. a better place to work and grow for the Black and Brown history makers to come. We’ll have more to share on progress we’ve made against our commitments later this month.

LS&Co. made true on our promise of increased support of racial equity and nonprofit organizations led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). In 2021, our company grants reflected this – 51% of the organizations LS&Co. supported were BIPOC-led and 53% of the company’s giving advanced racial equity goals. The Levi Strauss Foundation also contributed $2,861,000 towards addressing racial justice in FY21 across their social justice, HIV/AIDS, and COVID-19 grant portfolios.

Our commitment to racial equity does not stop here and we’ll continue to pave the way for a more equitable and just world.
