LS&Co. is proud to recognize Mental Health Awareness Month in the U.S. this May. We will spend the month increasing awareness around the importance of mental health and wellness in our lives and celebrating the ways employees have used resources to build better lives for themselves and others affected by mental illness.
To kick off the month, meet Preston Zorner, a planner in our outlets business who benefitted from our many mental health and wellness resources.
A couple years ago, Preston experienced an acute mental health event and could not make it to work. But Preston was not alone — many teams, including corporate security, human resources and Preston’s own team, quickly offered support.
“These people are superheroes,” said Preston. “It’s great to work for a company that cares about the well-being of its employees.”
Misconceptions about mental illness prevent many people from getting the help they need — that stigma is harmful and causes people to needlessly suffer in silence. For employees such as Preston, LS&Co.’s paid leave policies and supportive community are a welcome safety net.
“More than two years later, I’m still able to make significant contributions to my team, having been supported during a time when I needed it,” said Preston. “In the past, I would have been scared or ashamed to ask for help. Now I know it’s OK to go through difficult times — and if you need support, our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a great place to start.”
