Last week, Levi Strauss & Co. CEO Chip Bergh participated in a panel discussion at the Aspen Ideas Festival entitled “The Business of Active Citizenship,” alongside Patagonia CEO Ryan Gellert. Moderated by Gillian Tett of the Financial Times, the conversation focused on how both companies are addressing social and environmental issues in the areas they operate — efforts that both CEOs agreed demonstrate their company’s values, uphold long-established legacies and drive better overall business performance.
This discussion was particularly relevant given the recent pushback faced by companies that speak out on social issues, something Bergh and Gellert alike vowed would not affect how they lead their companies or change their employees’ expectations of their employer.
