A State of Drought: How California Could Have Saved 35 Billion Liters of Water

There’s no way of ignoring it: California is still in a state of drought. Earlier this month, the U.S. Drought Monitor released a report stating the California reservoir storage is the “second lowest on record” for this time of year.

The good news is there may be a bit of relief in sight, as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s most recent forecast predicts a strong El Niño is likely to bring heavy rain to the drought-stricken state this winter.

But don’t give up those short showers just yet!

The anticipated precipitation likely won’t be enough to overcome the severe drought plaguing the state. That means water conservation habits still matter — even if it’s raining outside.

The infographic below shows the vast amounts of water, energy and money that could have been saved over the past four years if everyone wearing Levi’s® jeans in California had taken our consumer care recommendations for washing and drying their pants. Small, simple changes, like washing less, washing cold and line drying, add up to big savings.
