Sweet 16, indeed! On our 16th annual Community Day, LS&Co. employees donated more than 16,000 hours to local nonprofits as part of our global day of service.
This year’s focus was on celebrating the everyday heroes in our communities, offices, stores and factories who consistently go out of their way to help others. Employees in more than 100 cities volunteered with organizations to help people enhance their job skills, engaged with workers at our factories via our partnership with Project WET and celebrated the nonprofit workers who continue to advocate for equality — all while continuing our commitment to nonprofit organizations dedicated to the communities where we work and live.
In San Francisco, as a nod to our pioneering stance and ongoing commitment to equality — both in the workplace and in our communities — we were joined by the ultimate everyday hero, Stuart Milk, Harvey Milk’s nephew, and founder and president of the Harvey Milk Foundation.
Here is just a glimpse at some of the projects employees took part in around the world:
Retail employees in Mississippi rallied alongside the Human Rights Campaign to repeal the Religious Freedom Law.
Corporate employees in Greece worked with immigrant and refugee children to build cultural awareness and teach youth that “different is beautiful.”
In Bangladesh, employees educated our supply chain community around issues of health, safety, and water access.
San Francisco employees worked alongside Stuart Milk, Harvey Milk’s nephew and founder of the Harvey Milk Foundation, at the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy.
In Singapore, in partnership with Waterways Watch, employees boated, biked and walked to clean up the city’s river.
Volunteers in Brussels helped Collect’Actif, an organization that collects and recycles food in order to avoid waste, repurpose the food they had collected the previous days to create lunches for local community members.
Employees in San Francisco (below), South Africa, Singapore, and Jakarta (below) were trained in Project WET, reaching nearly 500 children at local schools.
Community Day in Paris was held in partnership with the Paris Football Club Foundation, at the Ecole Rouge Bleu, a school that hosts hundreds of kids after school hours for tutoring and recreational activities.
