Climate change isn’t just about extreme weather. If left unchecked, it stands to negatively affect the entire planet, including the people, communities and businesses that comprise it.
That’s why we were adamant in our initial support of the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement back in April of this year and we remain steadfast in our commitment to seeing it move forward.
Levi Strauss & Co. is proud to join more than 365 businesses and investors – from more than a dozen Fortune 500 firms to small, family-owned businesses across more than 35 states – in sending a strong message to current and incoming U.S. and global leaders reaffirming our support for the historic Paris Climate Agreement and the need to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy at home and around the world.
“Building an energy-efficient economy in the U.S., powered by low-carbon energy will ensure our nation’s competitiveness and position US companies as leaders in the global market – all while doing the right thing for our planet,” said Michael Kobori, vice president, sustainability, Levi Strauss &Co. “As a 160-year old American company, we must do our part to combat climate change and its impacts in order to ensure access to the raw materials and natural resources that will allow us to be a successful business for another 160 years to come.”
Negotiated last December, the Paris Agreement is considered a monumental step in transitioning our economy to a cleaner, more sustainable future in which people, the planet and businesses can thrive.
Last December, we applauded U.S. leaders in helping to reach this global agreement. We’re also calling on U.S. lawmakers to make good on our country’s promise to address climate change, beginning with swift implementation of the Clean Power Plan, which will decrease emissions from our nation’s power plants by 32 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.
At LS&Co., we’ll continue to do our part to address climate change and advocate with lawmakers for meaningful climate and energy policies to build the low carbon economy necessary for our economy to thrive.
